News Workshop/JOU 3113

JOU-3113 teaches the fundamentals of reporting and writing news stories for print and broadcast.

 

Course goals include:

 

·  To prepare students for the wild, wonderful, whacky and always interesting job of journalism.

 

·  To help students understand the notion of “story,” what a story is and is not, what makes something news; to develop and sharpen news judgment.

 

·  To teach students how to report and write basic news stories – meetings, speeches, news conferences, crime and the like – for publication.

 

·  To teach AP Style and how to use the AP Stylebook.

 

·  To sharpen spelling and grammar skills.
